More Podiums for Shores Sports Racing

It just keeps getting better! The Shores Sports Team hosted and raced in St. Joseph, MO. Beautiful Krug Park the weekend of May 8th! Not only did the hardwork of Randy Tracy and Craig Hoppe's 2 year quest to build and maintain a new trail system at Krug Park deliver, it impressed and exhausted all those who participated in the event. We want to thank all the teams for coming out for the weekend event! We are new to putting on a race and when I say we, I should just say Randy Tracy and his Merry Men and some of the hottest Registration girls in the sport of Mountain Biking!

The racers' on Shores Sports Showed up to Race! In the Cat. 1 event, Craig Hoppe was at the scoring table and unable to strut his stuff on the race course, but he is fit and like a caged animal for his next race. In the Cat. 2 race Jason Douglas took the top honors in the 35-39 age group! Way to go Jason D. you beat them all on your Single Speed, that was impressive work! In the same Category, Gary Mapes continues to impress with a 4th place finish, Jason Coffman with another good race in 7th place. JP Shores (me) well let's just say if you follow me on Facebook, you know that I did not have a good race and really do not remember much after kissing a tree! In the men's Cat. 2 50 plus race, Jim Spellman was on his game, placing 2nd on the podium. Great job Jim.

As always, we have a race report from our top dog of the day at that particular race, here it is from the winner Jason Douglas point of view: See next Post!

Shores Sports Starts the 2010 Race season on fire!

The racing season has started and the team is delivering! I am posting 2 race reports from Gary Mapes! He is on Fire! In a 3 week span he won the Lawrence River Trails Race, was 4th with JP Shores at the 6 Hr. Bonebender Du Race, and won the Tour De Tick in Neosho Mo. by more than 6 min. in the Cat. 2 30-39 age group. Here is how 2 of the races went down:

Lawrence Race Report:

Nine of us lined up for the Cat 2, 30-39 class. Only 3 racers for the Cat 2, 19-29 entered the race so the promoters decided to combine our groups for the start and then separate the groups for the results. Well like most, I'm thinking uhhg, because seperated or not, you want to beat the guys you line up with. Now we got to take on these whipper-snappers! Two of us from are on the start, myself and Jason Coffman to the right of me. We plan on hitting the start hard to possibly stay together and control the race. The official calls out "go!" without any warning and I have a bit of a time getting clipped in, but I manage to out sprint all the guys in my age class except one of the young guys is in front of me. I look back to see Coffman 2 back from me and looking strong. I try to stay with the young guy as long as I can but he is setting a blistering pace and I didn't want to risk losing my age group trying to catch him. I lead the first two laps, pulling into some tough winds with a stomach cramp. On the 3rd lap I decided to let number two around me in hopes he would pull through the wind for a bit, but instead he attacks me and I have a hard time covering it. After a few miles he gets just out of sight, my cramp settles out and I slam a power gel and lock my shocks to try and bridge. I hit it hard and pull him back in just as we are about to start the final lap, as I catch him I try and get in his head a bit by saying "I'm back" in a taunting Jack Nicholson way. I ask him if he wanted to pick the pace up a little and try to catch the younger guy and he makes a mistake by telling me he was cramping up! Yes you guessed it I take the opportunity to ATTACK! I left him behind and never looked back. Now I'm about 3 miles from the finish and what do I see? The guy in the younger class is in trouble, he has partially blown him self with his own blistering pace. I pass him with 2 to go but he latches on to me like a tick. We come out of the woods to see the finish line, he whips beside me to go for the sprint but I barely hold him off to take it by less then a half a wheel! Rack one up for the old guys! Shortly after Coffman comes blasting through to take 3rd place in our age group! takes 2 podium spots on the first cross country race of the year. This Is going to be an exciting year for

Neosho Report:

Really not alot to report on this one, I was really was only concerned about 1 guy. Rob Ballou a UFD Eastern league strong man. He was lined up next to me, and was looking fit! I knew I had home field advantage since I know the course very well and had already spent three hours on it earlier in the week. My goal was to get the hole shot and push my limit from the start and make my competition afraid to challenge me. I quickly jumped off of the start and I kid you not I dropped the field so fast I thought I took a wrong turn! LOL, less than one minute in I looked back and no one was in sight! The course was very slick so I hammered the climbs and straights until I felt like losing my lunch and then I rode conservative in the slick tech. spots. I beat Rob (second place finisher) with a time of 1:46:50 on the 19 mile course.

We entered 4 Teams in Duo Bonebender Race with a goal of getting at least 2 teams on the podium. We accomplished half of our goal. There was a record 18 teams in the event and we were in a battle for 2nd - 5th most of the 6 hr. race! At the end of the day we placed Craig Hoppe and Jason Douglas on the 3rd place spot on the podium. Gary and JP were 4th. Randy and David were 7th. Jason Coffman and Mayfield were 9th. It was great day just hanging out with the guys! That was more important than any podium or placement. We truley have an incredible group of racers this year.

This coming weekend is our race! KRUG! Randy Tracy and Craig Hoppe have been putting in some serious time over the last few years to get this trail ready to race. Let me tell you, if you do not bring your climbing legs, you better just stay home!! I know that many people have helped build and support the trail building efforts in St. Joe, but we all know that Randy and Craig have been the two spear heading this effort, so if you run into either one this weekend, tell them Thanks!!

Go Shores Sports Racing!

South Tampa Posse / Florida Training

Just Wrapped up a solid 400 mile training week in Tampa, Fl. A one hour recovery ride in the morning, pack the bike, the kids, and then off to the airport! We had a great time with friends and family. Ashley was able to get in a great race and log some sweet running workouts with some former training partners. I was able to ride with the South Tampa Posse and get in a few solid race efforts during 2 of the longest running group rides in the St. Petersburg, FL. area, wher 50 riders is the normal number of riders per ride. I can only hope that we have a larger group of runners and cyclist joining us in the future for an annual training trip to Florida!

Now, a big congratulations goes out to Cameron Chamber, who races on the Ethos Racing team, Shores Sports is a sponsor of the team, for his 1st victory of 2010! Check out his blog: for a full race report! I am sure he will have it posted soon!! Also check out: as Cameron is also a part of the Specialized Stumpjumper Crew. He raced his new Stumpjumper this weekend and I am sure a complete race report and video recap could be on that site soon! Cool stuff Cameron!

Now back to reality soon! Working, raising 2 toddlers, and fitting in training. March 27th is on the horizon, that is the first official race on my schedule for 2010. Let's hope the weather in Kansas cooperates and allows us to ride and race on the local trails soon! Otherwise, I might be forced to race on the road in order to see if this mini training camp was a success or not?

See you all on the trails or road soon and don't forget the SPIN! rides will start soon! The rumor is that we will begin the organized SPIN! rides from the Lee Summit location each Saturday in April. Stay tooned for those details!

See you in Kansas!

Team Kits and Florida Training!

Greetings from Florida!

This Winter has been a rough one, so Ashley and I decided to get the family out of Kansas for a bit and enjoy some warmer weather! Well, it is record lows and winds gusting to 30 mph the next 3 days, but it is still warmer than what we have been dealing with in the Midwest this Winter. I just hope that the weather is better for the first Mountain Bike Race on March 27th on the Lawrence River Trails? Time will only tell!

Well, I have to say that my wife gets the first official placing for the 2010 season for Shores Sports Racing! She did the Gasparilla 15K in Tampa, FL on Feb. 27th. She posted a time of 65 minutes and was 7th out of 400 women in her age group! She never stops amazing me and I was very proud of how great she did with the traininig conditions in the Midwest and being a mom to 2 young children. Way to go Ashley! You have set the bar for the rest of the team for 2010!

We have finalized the team kits and they are on order as I type this post. We hope to be sporting the new sponsors on our chest by BoneBender 3/6 Race! I ordered a few extra in the Large category just in case we have a new team member or someone jacks up there jersey this season? We can make another team kit order in June for Cross season if anyone wants to get in on some Winter gear? You all have the price list, but I will throw out a reminder come June.

I want to say thank you to our wonderful Sponsors:

Epic Bike and Sport

Shores Medical, LLC

SPIN! Pizza

Seaman and Schuske

B&J Skate Center

DQ Savannah, MO

Please support or send a quick thank you to each of these business's as it is tough times out there, but the support we get is much appreciated. I would like to invite all of the sponsors to the race at Krug the second weekend of May! We could set up a little VIP tent just for the Shores Sports Racing Team Sponsors!

Well, it is nearly midnight here in Tampa, Fl and I need to get some sleep. St. Petersburg Group ride planned in the a.m. Which should log in about 3 plus hours on the road tomorrow. Looking forward to some warmer weather when we return!

Ride Strong!
